The Company
Phonetic Arts has developed revolutionary
new technology that we believe will change forever the way
speech is used in computer games. Today many games use speech
of some kind, but this is always in the form of speech
samples that have been scripted and recorded during game development.
This means the range of things to be said is fixed and the speech
can’t really react to what is happening in the game.
Phonetic Arts technology changes all this. With the Phonetic
Synthesizer, any sentence can be generated and spokens on
the fly, meaning that an unlimited number of sentences can
be generated by the game engine. The generated speech sounds
natural and expressive and adds a realism to the game not
previously possible.
Along with our complimentary technologies of the Phonetic
Morpher, which transforms speech to sound like it comes from
a different character, and Phonetic LipSync which provides
the lip sync information for natural and recorded speech,
the Phonetic Synthesizer can transform the way speech is used
in games.
Founded in 2006 by three speech industry veterans, Paul Taylor,
Ian Hodson and Anthony Tomlinson, Phonetic Arts is dedicated
to bringing the best possible speech technology to the computer
games market. Phonetic Arts is headquartered in Cambridge,
UK, and has strong links with Cambridge University.
